The federal government and area jurisdictions will observe the Independence Day holiday on Monday, July 4.
All federal offices will be closed on Monday. In Maryland and Virginia, state and county government offices will be closed, and District government offices will be closed.
There will be no mail delivery Monday, except for special delivery and express mail. All post offices, banks and courts will be closed.
Metrobus will operate on an augmented Sunday schedule Monday, with additional buses serving the downtown or Metrorail connecting points. Metrorail will operate on an augmented Saturday schedule, with service from 8 a.m. until about midnight, or the end of the post-fireworks transportation period. Bus and rail fares will be 50 cents all day, with free transfers from bus to bus and from rail to bus. Flash passes will be accepted. The Silver Spring Ride-On service will operate on a Sunday schedule. The Gaithersburg Ride-On will not operate.
Liquor stores will be closed on Monday in Virginia and Montgomery County, but most will be open in the District and Prince George's County.
D.C. libraries will be closed Saturday through Monday, other area libraries on Monday.
In the District, Supercan trash collections will be made Tuesday through Saturday, a day later than usual, instead of Monday through Friday. Regular trash collections scheduled for Monday and Tuesday will be made on Tuesday and Wednesday. In Montgomery and Prince George's counties there will be no trash pickup on Monday. The next scheduled pickup in both areas is Thursday.
In Fairfax County, Fairfax City and Arlington County trash collections will be made on schedule. In Vienna there will be no trash collection on Monday; Monday's trash will be collected on Thursday. In Falls Church, Monday's trash will be collected Tuesday and Tuesday's trash will be collected Wednesday. In Alexandria, trash collections will be made Tuesday through Friday, a day later than usual.
Parking meter payments will not be required in the District. Enforcement of traffic and parking regulations will vary among other jurisdictions.
