Lubber Run Park, tucked into the woods of Arlington County, offers everything from juggling acts to blues in its summer schedule, with a different performance almost every night.

The land on which the amphitheater and the Arlington County Recreation Department are now located was originally a working farm. The first offices of the recreation department were in the farmhouse.

Over the next few years, the department began sponsoring summer playground programs that included small performances. The idea caught on and the first theater was built in 1964.

Four years later, construction began for what is now the Lubber Run Amphitheatre, and by 1969 Arlington County was celebrating its first "Arts in the Park" program. Every year since then the program has included one summer musical and a Children's Theatre production.

This summer, the Children's Theatre production will be "My Friend the Fox," Friday, Saturday, Sunday and July 15, 16 and 17. In August, the musical "Most Happy Fella" will be presented. For a summer schedule and more information, call 558-2165. Donations are welcome.
