Fifty-five Bethlehem Steel workers and their wives have filed suit against the company, alleging that it knew employes at the Sparrows Point (Md.) plant were developing lung diseases but did not tell them.

The complaints, filed in U.S. District Court in Baltimore this week, also name 26 manufacturers and suppliers of asbestos products for allegedly withholding information about the dangers of their products.

The action contends that some of those health dangers became evident during examinations conducted by company physicians who discovered that "a certain percentage of company employes were suffering from asbestos-related diseases." But, the suit asserts, the company concealed the information from the workers. 55 Employes Sue Steel Company
