Ocean City fire officials are investigating the cause of are investigating the cause of a fire early yesterday morning at a restaurant there that claimed the life of a volunteer firefighter.
Officials said Jeffrey Dieter, 24, of Ocean City was killed when the roof of the building collapsed and he was trapped inside.
The four-alarm blaze, which destroyed the Saute Restaurant on Coastal Highway, began about 6:30 a.m. yesterday and took 115 firefighters to put it out, according to a spokeswoman for the fire department's communications department.
She said two other firefighters were treated for minor injuries and released.
The Maryland state fire marshal and Ocean City fire marshal are investigating the cause of the fire. Body of Swimmer Found in Closed Pool
The body of a Northeast Washington man was found in a closed D.C. Recreation Department pool early yesterday, police said.
Ken Furgeson, 25, of 4411 Quarles St. NE had been in the Kenilworth Parkside Pool at Anacostia and Ord streets NE with a group of people on Friday night after closing time, police said. When a security guard discovered the swimmers about 1 a.m. and chased them from the pool, one of the group noticed Furgeson's body at the bottom of the pool, police said.
Police said an autopsy is pending.
