An 80-year-old Silver Spring woman was found slain last night in her home, which had been broken into and ransacked, Montgomery County police reported.
They said the body of Anna Teresa Kendricks was found on the floor in a rear bedroom of her split-level house at 2119 Coleridge Dr. in the Forest Glen area of Silver Spring by a nephew who went to check on her.
She had multiple stab wounds, police said. The woman, who lived alone, apparently died between 10 p.m. Saturday night and about 7:30 last night, police said. They said the killer apparently entered through a rear window.
Neighbors described Kendricks as a small, frail woman with white hair. She was the "sweetest little lady you would want to lay your eyes on," said Bernell Postell, who lives across the street.
Postell said he last saw Kendricks last Friday. He said she was very hard of hearing and visitors usually would call her in advance and she would let them in the back door.
About the only times she left her house, Postell said, were to water her azaleas and to attend small gatherings of other women in the neighborhood.
Although another neighbor usually prepared meals each day for Kendricks, Postell said the neighbor left last week on vacation. He said Kendricks' husband died about seven years ago.
Police said last night that they have no suspects.
