Immunizations All children entering Northern Virginia schools for the first time are required to submit a certificate of immunization against diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, polio, rubeola (red measles), rubella (German measles) and mumps.

Elementary students entering school for the first time also are required to turn in a report of a physical examination from a licensed physician. Let It Snow!

Most Northern Virginia school districts already are planning for winter storms. If school is canceled because of a storm, officials say, parents should tune in their local radio or television station. Decisions to close schools because of snow or other problems will be made as early as possible and broadcast on radio and television stations throughout the area. School officials urge parents who work to make arrangements for child care in case schools are closed because of snow.
