The Arlington County Fire Department reported the following fire:
LINCOLN ST. N., 815 at 2 p.m. Aug 23. A fire contained in the dining area of a rooming house caused $10,000 damage to furnishings. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is undetermined. Fairfax County
The Fairfax County Fire Department reported the following fires from Aug. 18 through Aug. 24 in the central Fairfax zone:
DALEVIEW DR., 1100 block, GREAT FALLS ST., 1500 block, WEMBERLY WAY, 6800 block, 1 to 5 a.m. Aug. 20. Three cars were set afire by two juveniles who were charged and released in the custody of their parents. The cars and damage estimates were: a 1979 Chevrolet Suburban at $3,500 damage, a 1966 Dodge Coronet at $200 and a 1971 Chevy Impala at $500 damage.
COLONIAL RD., 1100 block, about 10 p.m. Aug. 20. Careless smoking was cited as the cause of a McLean house fire that killed two persons and injured a third. The home's smoke detectors had dead batteries. Damage to the house was estimated at $45,000.
LEE PARK CT., 7000 block, about 1 a.m. Aug. 24. A frayed television cord caused a basement fire in the Falls Church area. Fire officials responded to the fire, but occupants of the house put the fire out with a fire extinguisher. There was $1,000 damage. One occupant was treated on the scene for minor smoke inhalation.
