The federal government and area jurisdictions will observe the Labor Day holiday on Monday.
All federal offices will be closed. In Maryland and Virginia, state and county government offices will be closed, and District government offices will be closed.
There will be no mail delivery, except for special delivery and express mail. All post offices, banks and courts will be closed.
Metro buses will operate Monday on a Sunday schedule, but Metrorail will operate on an extended Saturday schedule from 8 a.m., to midnight, and there will be extra service from the Stadium-Armory station to accommodate persons leaving the Redskins football game at RFK Stadium. Off-peak fares will be in effect. The Silver Spring Ride-On service will operate on a Sunday schedule while the Gaithersburg Ride-On will not be in operation.
All area schools will be closed as well.
Liquor stores will be closed in Virginia and Montgomery County, but most in the District and Prince George's County will be open.
Libraries in the District of Columbia will be closed Saturday through Monday, and other area libraries will be closed Monday.
In the District, Supercan trash collections will be made one day late next week, while regular Monday trash collections will be made on Tuesday and Tuesday's trash will be collected on Wednesday. The rest of the week will operate on schedule. In Montgomery and Prince George's counties, there will be no trash pickup Monday. In Fairfax and Arlington counties, trash collections will be made on schedule. In Alexandria, trash collections will be one day late while in Falls Church regular Monday trash collections will be made Tuesday, and Tuesday's collections will be made Wednesday, with the rest of the week operating on schedule.
Parking meter payments will not be required Monday in the District; enforcement of traffic regulations will vary among other jurisdictions.
