Arlington County

The following zoning variance requests were heard by the Arlington Board of Zoning Appeals at its Sept. 12 meeting:

ARMY-NAVY DR. S., 1805--Deferred to Nov. 7 the request of Harold and Noreen Mercer for a variance to build a side addition 14 feet from the front property line instead of the 25 feet required, and eight feet from the rear property line instead of the 25 feet required.

CLEVELAND ST. N., 1306--Granted the request of William Louis Kucera for a variance to build a rear addition 10 feet from the rear property line instead of the 25 feet required.

EDISON ST. N., 363--Granted the request of William and Mary Brewer for a variance to build an attached garage with a room above it 20 feet from the front property line instead of the 25 feet required, and eight feet from the rear property line instead of the 10 feet required.

GARFIELD ST. N., 1032--Granted the request of T.J. Bell for a variance to erect a free-standing sign on a lot 54 feet from the front property line instead of the 100 feet required, provided that the sign is 12 square feet or smaller.

GRANT ST. S., 2601--Granted the request of A.J. and Elizabeth Adams for a variance to build a side addition two feet from the side property line instead of the eight feet required.

GREENBRIER ST. N., 1408--Granted the request of E. Kendrick and Jean Hurt for a variance for a second-story addition closer to the garage than the 15 foot minimum separation required.

HARTFORD ST. N., 1411--Denied the request of William and Sharon MacDonald for a variance for a rear addition three feet from the side property line instead of the six feet previously granted by the Board of Zoning Appeals.

JACKSON ST. S., 219--Granted the request of George Manousakis for a variance for a garage closer to the house than the 15-foot minimum separation required.

SYCAMORE ST. N., 2902 through 2922--Deferred until Oct. 3 the request of Nicholas Kalis, Williamsburg Associates Inc., for a variance for a sign to be free-standing instead of set against a wall, and to place the sign 18 feet from the road instead of the required 25 feet.

THOMAS ST. N., 2160--Granted the request of Harold F. Kenny for a variance for a house 16 feet from the front property line instead of the 25 feet required.

FIRST RD. N., 2825--Granted the request of Darryl Cain for a variance to build a rear deck three feet from the side property line instead of the five feet required and closer to a shed than the 15 feet required.

FOURTH ST S., 5800--Granted the request of William A. Moore, attorney for the Estate of Carl Schulze, for a variance to build a house 18 feet from the front property line instead of the 30 feet required. Fairfax County

The following zoning variance requests were filed recently in Fairfax County. They are scheduled to be heard by the Board of Zoning Appeals on Sept. 27 and Oct. 4:

ALPINE DR., 6725--Surinder K. Khanna requested a variance to allow building on a lot having a width of 20.8 feet instead of the 100 foot minimum required. Mason District.

CAMERON RD., 2841--Carolyn and Beat Zuttel requested permission to build a second-story addition 7.5 feet from the south side lot line and 8.4 feet from the north side lot line, instead of the 10 foot minimum side yard requirement. Providence District.
