The annual Temporaries Inc. Food for Christmas Drive, which last year raised 250,000 cans of food for needy people, will be held Dec. 3 through 7.

"This year, our goal is 300,000 cans of food," said Barry Wright, president of the Food for Christmas Foundation and president and founder of Temporaries Inc.

All canned food, as well as all cash donations that are used to purchase food, are given to the HELP/FISH group in Maryland, the Senior Citizens Counseling and Delivery Service in the District, and United Community Ministries in Virginia.

The nonprofit organizations distribute the food throughout the year to senior citizens and needy people.

Donations of canned goods may be dropped off in collection boxes throughout the Washington area at Giant Food Stores, all locations of the D.C. National Bank, the Connecticut Connection at Connecticut and L streets NW in the District, Federal Express Business Service Centers and most movie theaters.

During the week-long drive, entertainment will be provided between noon and 2 p.m. at the Connecticut Connection.

There will be a daily "auction" of everything from sports attire and theater tickets to dinners and escape weekends.
