An intruder who entered a Temple Hills home yesterday morning and ordered two sisters to undress was shot and killed by the girls' father, Prince George's County police reported. The girls were not named.

Police said the intruder, a 34-year-old man who brandished a pair of scissors, was shot once in the abdomen and was taken by ambulance to Prince George's General Hospital, where he died about two hours after the 8:30 a.m. incident.

The dead man was identified by police as James Ruford Bussie of 2515 Larry Ave., Temple Hills.

The father, R.D. Smith, has not been charged in the shooting, a homicide detective said last night.

"It was a burglary and he was protecting his family," the detective said. "The suspect was armed."

Police said the intruder entered Smith's home at 4908 Iverson Place and went to a second-floor bedroom shared by Smith's 12- and 14-year-old daughters. He showed a pair of scissors and ordered the girls to undress, police said.

One of the girls managed to escape, police said, and ran downstairs to wake her father.

Smith went to the bedroom armed with a gun, police said, and a struggle ensued, during which the intruder was shot.
