Wilson is the surprise team of the Interhigh girls basketball league and the primary reason for that is the play of McCollough. Last week, the senior guard had two straight 23-point games as the Tigers stretched their winning streak to four and improved their record to 10-3 overall, 7-3 in the league.

She had 23 points against winless Cardozo in a 19-point rout, 49-30. Two days later, McCollough scored 23 points in another 19-point rout, 51-33, over Spingarn. Through 13 games, the Wilson star scored 201 points for a 15.5 average.

McCollough is ahead of last year's scoring pace. She tallied 226 points (18 games) last year for a 12.6 average.

"She is playing exceptionally well," said Coach Horace Flemming. "She is showing a lot of leadership and she continues to lead Wilson in more way than just scoring. It was a role she is accepting and a role that she wanted. It was time for her to take over and she looked upon herself to do that.

"She can play several different positions. She's a good post player and a good jumper. She's doing a great job for us."
