A young woman died of a bullet wound in the head yesterday afternoon after she was found lying on a curb in the 1600 block of Military Road NW, D.C. police said.
Police said the unidentified woman was spotted about 1:45 p.m. by a passer-by, who called police.
The woman, at first thought to be a hit-and-run victim, was taken to the Washington Hospital Center, where she was pronounced dead, they said.
She was wearing a shoulder-length black wig, blue jeans and a short fur coat, they said.
In an unrelated incident, a 43-year-old Northwest man was fatally shot and his roommate seriously wounded at their home early yesterday morning. A 24-year-old Northwest man was arrested and charged in the incident.
Police said the dead man, who has not been identified pending notification of relatives, and his roommate, Leonard Kelley, 47, both of 1112 Lamont St. NW, were found inside the house about 3:15 a.m. suffering from gunshot wounds.
Kelley was listed in fair condition at the Washington Hospital Center last night with a bullet wound in the neck. Kelley's roommate was pronounced dead at D.C. General Hospital about 7 a.m.
Police said that after an interview with Kelley they arrested Derrie A. Nelson of 2217 First St. NW and charged him with homicide.
