The Interhigh indoor girls track championship was expected to be decided in the long distance races. Last week at the Armory, Everitt dominated the distance events to lead Ballou to the team title with 151 points.
In the meet's first event, Everitt passed H.D. Woodson's Lisa Milner on the last lap and won the 3,200-meter run (12:44.8). In the 1,600-meter run, she again overcame Milner on the last lap and to win in 5:54.0. She caught Woodson's Karen Frazier on the last lap and displayed a strong finishing kick in the 1,000 meters (3:17.6).
"I am very pround of myself and I'm ready to run some more," she said after picking up her three trophies. "I was trying to stay with the pack and make my move on the last turn (in the 1,600 and 3,200).
"I was determined to beat her (Frazier). I also had my teammate behind me."
After missing cross country because Ballou officials decided not to participate and the early part of the indoor season, Everitt chose the Interhigh meet to make her seasonal debut. She is expected to be one of the outstanding outdoor long distance runners.
