An attempt by Fairfax County police to serve a warrant yesterday triggered a chase that ended in a crash in Crystal City, authorities said.
Police reported that two Fairfax investigators went to the home of Robert L. Nelson, at 19 E. Clifford Ave., Alexandria, to serve the warrant. While they were still outside the home, Nelson, 39, and two other men came out of the house and drove away, the officers said.
The three officers -- joined by other police units -- followed as the car sped north on Rte. 1, entered Crystal City in Arlington County and was involved in a crash, a Fairfax police spokesman said.
Details about the accident were not available, but officers said Nelson fled on foot. Police said the warrant was issued after Nelson failed to appear to begin serving a 10-year sentence for grand larceny. They said the other two men were not charged. add d P.G. Firefighter Injured by Auto Stephen Ager, 25, a Prince George's County firefighter, was injured yesterday when a car out of control drove into the Ritchie fire station, county fire officials said.
The car, traveling on Ritchie Marlboro Road, swerved to miss another auto and ran into the station. It went through a wall of the building and ended in the recreation room. Ager was hurt when he was hit by debris, officials said.
Police did not identify the driver, but he and Ager were taken to Prince George's General Hospital. Ager was listed in stable condition with bruises and leg injuries. The driver's condition was unknown. Damage to the station was estimated at $33,000.
