STEVE BRYANT (Park View) -- explosive off the bottom . . . Virginia AA and Sterling Invitational champion . . . placed second in Northwestern District, Region II and Ireton Invitational tournaments . . . 27-2 this season.

BRIAN BURKETT (Bullis) -- a three-time IAC champion, he also won the St. Albans crown . . . beat fellow all-Met Mark Mangrum during the season, 3-0 . . . 27-12 this year.

JOHN EPPERLY (Robinson) -- helped Robinson win the Virginia AAA crown with a 5-3 defeat of Oakton's Greg Rogers, and won his third AAA championship in the process . . . father John Sr. is also his coach at Robinson . . . career record of 99-3 including 26-0 in 1984-85.

BILLY FREW (Wheaton) -- won 28 straight matches this season until he lost, 7-3, to C. Milton Wright's Darryl Jenkins in the Maryland AA/A final . . . placed second and third at 138 in his sophomore and junior years. Finished 25-1.

AARON GREEN (Yorktown) -- Virginia AAA champion this season after taking second last year at 98 . . . runner-up in both the Northern Region and Great Falls District finals . . . 25-4 record.

JOE HALL (McNamara) -- the junior won National Prep, Metro Conference and St. Albans Invitational champions. Also won Southern Maryland Invitational . . . Chosen for Potomac Valley All-Stars . . . 32-1 record this season.

GARY HELDT (Largo) -- finished 23-1 and dominated division all season long . . . won Maryland AA/A title with 14-9 victory over arch-rival Jamie Beghtol of Laurel . . . also an AA all-county lineman in football.

ROBERT KLEIN (O'Connell) -- dropped down a weight class and won Metro Conference championship at 132 after taking second last year at 138 . . . placed second in the Warren County Christmas tournament . . . finished 25-6.

MIKE KNALY (Carroll) -- Did not wrestle last season, but came back as senior to win St. Albans and National Prep titles. Also won Jefferson and Curley Invitational tournaments . . . career record: 55-7 including 25-1 this season.

KEN KRATZER (Osbourn) -- the junior won his first Virginia AA championship and finished 24-1 . . . avenged a 7-5 loss to Poquoson's Greg Casey with a 13-0 blanking in the state semifinals.

MARK LAUSTEN (Ireton) -- came on strong late in the season . . . defeated Bullis' IAC champion Tim Almany, 5-4, to win the St. Albans tournament, and went on to win Virginia Prep championship . . . 34-7 this season.

CHUCK LEE (Bullis) -- Repeat all-Met who was runner-up in both the IAC and St. Albans Invitationals . . . lost to all-Met Kurt Tamai in National Prep final . . . finished 32-8 this season (70-9 over past two years).

ERIC MANGRUM (Ireton) -- one of the most dominating wrestlers in the area . . . a three-time Virginia Prep champion, he also won St. Albans Invitational, placed second in National Prep championships . . . finished 39-0 with 31 pins.

MARK MANGRUM (Ireton) -- A three-time Virginia independent schools champion and two-time National Prep titlist, he also won St. Albans championship . . . Record this year: 38-4.

ROBERT McMILLAN (Osbourn) -- at 250 pounds, won second Virginia AA championship. Also won Sterling Invitational, Northwestern District and Region II titles . . . all three losses in 22-3 season were to AAA opponents.

DENNIS O'BRIEN (O'Connell) -- a very strong wrestler . . . Metro Conference and St. Albans Invitational titlist, and a Virginia Prep tournament runner-up . . . finished 32-3 this season.

TONY PORZILLO (Arundel) -- his 9-2 victory over Glen Burnie's Darrin Tilson in the Maryland AA/A final helped the Wildcats win the state championship . . . also won Region IV championship and finished 30-1.

STANLEY PROCTOR (Bowie) -- career record: 118-5 (30-0 this year), but hasn't lost since freshman season. Set Maryland record for consecutive (93) and career victories . . . one of four wrestlers to win three Maryland AA/A titles.

CHARLIE ROYER (Old Mill) -- four-year record: 115-7-1 including 35-1 this year . . . won his second consecutive Maryland AA/A crown after winning at 105 last year . . . His four career state finishes were fourth, second, first and first.

TOSELLI SILVESTRI (Model) -- career record: 93-7 including 34-0 this year . . . took the St. Albans and National Prep crowns, and won St. Anselms and Mason-Dixon Invitationals . . . selected for Potomac Valley (D.C.) All-Stars.

KARL TAMAI (DeMatha) -- Followed Metro Conference championship with National Prep title at 109. Also won Arundel and St. Albans titles. Took Most Valuable Wrestler honors in the latter . . . three-year varsity record: 75-18 including 31-3 this year (with 16 pins).

KURT TAMAI (DeMatha) -- Metro Conference, St. Albans, Annapolis and Arundel Invitational champion; runner up at National Prep championships at 102 after winning it as a sophomore . . . finished 34-3 with 19 pins.

BOBBY TRUBY (Sherwood) -- pinned three of four opponents in winning his second straight Maryland AA/A title (won at 98 pounds last season) . . . has a chance to become the state's first four-time champion . . . 30-1-1 this season.

MIKE TRUBY (Sherwood) -- probably the finest wrestler in the area . . . won his third consecutive Maryland AA/A title (after winning previously at 112 and 105) to become one of four wrestlers to win three state crowns . . . 29-2 this season; 58-3 over past two years.

DAN YOUNGBLOOD (Old Mill) -- after winning Region IV championship, won his first Maryland AA/A title with 9-2 overtime decision over Erik Cohen of Randallstown . . . 28-4 this season.

MARC ZAPF (Osbourn) -- two-time Virginia AA champion (won last year at 98) . . . had 23-2 record this season and gained 70 near-falls . . . Northwestern District and Region II champion.
