A rabies vaccination clinic for cats will be held from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the Stella B. Werner Council Office Building garage, 100 Maryland Ave., Rockville.
Montgomery County's animal control ordinance requires all cats over 4 months of age to be vaccinated against rabies and to be licensed. Cat owners are subject to a $250 fine for an unvaccinated cat and $50 for an unlicensed cat.
The rabies clinic is free to all county residents, except those who live in Rockville. Rockville residents must pay a $3 charge but are not required to buy a license. All other county residents must purchase a license at the time of vaccination. Montgomery County and Gaithersburg city licenses will be sold at the clinic.
The vaccine is effective for three years in cats that are at least 1 year old, and for one year in younger cats.
Owners of cats with their last vaccination still in effect may obtain a 1985-86 license by mailing a check and last year's tag number to the Department of Animal Control and Humane Treatment, 14645 Rothgeb Dr., Rockville, Md. 20850. Proof of vaccination must be submitted with license applications. The fee is $5 for neutered cats and $10 for unneutered cats.
