A Landover woman was critically wounded early yesterday when she was stabbed in the chest and throat and her husband was charged later with assault with intent to murder, Prince George's County police reported.

They said Deborah Ann Brown, 29, of 7503 Courtney Place, was wounded during a dispute at her home and a spokesman at Prince George's County Hospital said she was in critical condition last night.

Police said Brown's assailant tried to choke her and then stabbed her in the chest before she was able to free herself from his grip.

The woman then jumped from a second-story window of her town house and ran toward a neighbor's house seeking help, police said. Detective Sam Gross of the Prince George's County Police Department said Brown was only able to reach the door of the neighboring residence before the assailant overtook her and stabbed her in the neck.

After the attack, the assailant returned to Brown's residence and stabbed himself in the abdomen, police said.

The husband, Russell Frances Brown Jr., 29, of the Courtney Place address, was listed in stable condition last night at Prince George's General Hospital, according to police.
