Parents Anonymous of Virginia, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the prevention and treatment of child abuse, will sponsor a Mardi Gras for Kids June 12, 13 and 14 to raise funds for its programs.

The event will take place at the 219 Restaurant in Old Town Alexandria. Persons are invited to don their Mardi Gras costumes and join the party for Dixieland bands, clowns, door prizes and authentic New Orleans food.

Local and national celebrities who have volunteered to act as waiters and bartenders for the event will greet patrons. All tips collected betweeen the hours of 11:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. during the benefit are to be used to further the efforts to stop child abuse.

The following have agreed to be on hand to help: Bob McBride, Channel 4 anchorman; Susan King, Channel 4 newscaster; Jeff Tysons, local disc jockey; Tom Durney of WASH, Mary Braxton of Channel 7, Lois Cassano of NBC News, Dels. Dorothy McDiarmid, Bob Cuningham, Gladys Keating, Vivian Watts, James Dillard and Frank Medico; state Sen. Richard Saslaw; Wyatt Durrette, GOP gubernatorial candidate, and Big John Stud, wrestler.

The event is sponsored with the Virginia Federation of Women's Clubs of the Northern District of Virginia.
