Rep. Frank R. Wolf (R-Va.) recently announced a tentative Federal Aviation Administration allocation of $600,000 for the first phase of a major improvement program at the Leesburg Municipal Airport to accommodate corporate aircraft. The funds will pay for an expansion of the apron area next to the new terminal and the conversion of a car parking lot to one for aircraft. Funds for phase two of the project, which will include the extension and widening of the north runway and lighting improvements, should be available this winter, a city spokesman said. Ninety percent of the $2.5 million needed for the second phase will come from an FAA grant, 5 percent from a grant from the Virginia Department of Aviation and 5 percent from private sources.

The Leesburg Farmers Market, which will soon take up permanent residence in the Market Station Square now nearing completion, began offering fresh fish for the first time recently, a city spokesman said. Offerings include shrimp, crab meat and the fish of the day. Nearly a dozen booths at the permanent location will be available in October. The city will ask farmers to open the booths on weekdays as well as weekends, the spokesman said. There is still no determination on whether the market will open year round.
