Truck Swerves Off Road Near Lorton, Hitting Utility Pole
Three people were killed and three were seriously injured early yesterday when the pickup truck in which they were riding left a road and struck a utility pole in the Lorton area, Fairfax County police said.
The dead were identified as Jodi M. Zeinalgol, 18, of 9105 Aspen Park Ct. in Lorton; her sister, Selena L. Zeinalgol, 16, and David S. Holmes, 22, of 11102 Gainsborough Ct. in Fairfax City.
Injured were Gregory Bushong, 26, and his brother James Bushong, 29, both of 9225 Ashland Woods La., Lorton, and Allen Bushong, 27, of 8124 Parkdale Ct. in Springfield. Police did not release the address of Selena Zeinalgol, or specify the relationship of Allen Bushong to the two brothers.
Police believe that alcohol and high speed may have been factors in the crash, Fairfax police spokesman Warren Carmichael said yesterday.
The accident occurred at approximately 2:25 a.m. when the truck, eastbound on Lorton Road just east of Pohick River Drive, crossed a double yellow line while passing a vehicle on a curve. It then veered off the right side of the road and continued for about 150 yards before striking a utility pole, according to Carmichael.
The vehicle overturned, throwing the six occupants as far as 50 feet, Carmichael said.
Lorton Road was closed yesterday morning while the utility pole was replaced.
The Zeinalgol sisters and Holmes were taken to Fairfax Hospital, where they were pronounced dead on arrival. Gregory and Allen Bushong were reported in serious condition yesterday afternoon at Washington Hospital Center. James Bushong was reported in serious condition at Mount Vernon Hospital.
Carmichael said yesterday that police had not determined who was driving the truck. The incident remains under investigation, he said.
