Alfred Dupell, 68, a retired Air Force lieutenant colonel and former Navy security official, died of renal failure Sept. 1 at DeWitt Army Hospital at Fort Belvoir. He lived in Newington, Va.

Col. Dupell was a native of New Hampshire. He entered the Army in 1940. During World War II, he received his commission and served with the Army Air Forces in the Pacific. He was assigned to the counterintelligence division of the Office of Special Investigations when he retired in 1963.

After that, he spent 20 years with the Navy Department, where he directed security for the Naval Ordnance Systems Command and then the Naval Sea Systems Command.

Col. Dupell was a member of the National Classification Management Society and the Retired Officers Association.

His marriage to Raye Dupell ended in divorce.

Survivors include his wife, Levelle, of Newington; a son by his first marriage, Richard, of Los Angeles; a stepson, Lawrence Uhlfelder of Falls Church; two stepdaughters, Sheliah Roy and Denise Uhlfelder, both of Alexandria; his father and stepmother, Fred and Elizabeth Dupell of Kingston, N.H.; three brothers, Raymond, of Nashua, N.H., Frank, of Rancho Cordova, Calif., and Russell, of Pennsylvania; two sisters, Marilyn Jarest of New Hampshire and Estelle Houle of California, and one grandchild.
