Letters to the North Pole have become passe'. The Northern Virginia Easter Seal Society will arrange for Santa or Mrs. Claus to call your child from the North Pole this Christmas season.
For a $2.50 tax-deductible donation, parents can register a child for a call asking for his or her Christmas wishes.
The calls will be made between Dec. 9 and 20 from 1 to 4 p.m. or from 6 to 9 p.m.
The deadline for registration is tomorrow.
Parents are asked to indicate how strongly their child believes in Santa, whether the child has written to Santa, recent special accomplishments and any other personal information to make each call personalized.
Calls will be made by volunteers from local area service organizations who will identify themselves to parents as the North Pole Connection.
Proceeds from the calls will be used to provide direct services to disabled children and adults in Northern Virginia.
To obtain registration forms, call the North Pole Connection at Easter Seals, 522-2777. The Prince William County Extension Office is seeking volunteer counselors for its Financial Counseling Program, which trains people to provide guidance and direction to families who are financially stressed.
As a counselor, each volunteer will work with an individual family to help them use a step-by-step spending plan to control their finances and reduce the family debt.
The typical family who asks for help has an annual income of $20,000 to $30,000 and are employed in steady jobs. Many are buying a house and have a college education. Their financial problems range from frustration with an inability to save to serious debts, or an impending foreclosure on their home.
A third party counselor often helps the family take an objective look at its financial situation and make difficult decisions.
For further information, call the Extension Office in Manassas at 335-6285 or 631-1703, ext. 6285. Note that all Arlington Co. Public Libraries will open three hours late on tomorrow to allow employes to attend a special staff meeting.
