Dr. Robert E. Hodson Jr., 44, a dentist in Bowie and a lifelong resident of the Washington area, died of cancer Dec. 3 at the Fairfield Convalescent Center in Crownsville, Md.

Dr. Hodson, a resident of Davidsonville, Md., was born in Washington. He graduated from Gonzaga College High School and earned bachelor's and dental degrees at Georgetown University. He served in the Air Force from 1967 to 1969 and was stationed in Colorado and Korea. He established his practice in Bowie about 1970.

Dr. Hodson was a member of the American Dental Association, the Maryland State Dental Association, the Southern Maryland Dental Society, the Bowie Dental Study Club and the Oral Cancer Society. He also was a member of the Dean Cober Cogan Society of the Georgetown University dental school and had been a dental school representative to the Georgetown alumni association.

He was also a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Davidsonville and the Prince Georges Country Club.

Survivors include his wife, Tracy, and four children, Holly, Heather, Ashley and Robert E. III, all of Davidsonville; his parents, Robert E. Sr. and Phyllis B. Hodson of Bethesda; a sister, Suzanne MacDaniels of Los Angeles, and a grandmother, Mrs. Alonzo P. Brown Sr. of Washington.
