Wayne Bryant and William Dunleavy recently joined the ranks of Al exandria firefighters after completing 12 weeks of training at the Alexandria Fire Academy. Bryant has been assigned to Station 54 on Second Street and Dunleavy will work out of Station 55 on Cameron Street. Hospital Public Relations

Garwood Whaley, music director at Bishop Ireton High School, was elected to the board of directors of the Percussive Arts Society at its international convention in Los Angeles. Whaley, who will serve a two-year term, is the only secondary school teacher on the board. The Percussive Arts Society has more than 5,000 professional performers, teachers and students. St. Agnes School's field hockey team, The Saints, recently won the Independent School League's field hockey championship for the third year in a row. Coached by Marsha Way, St. Agnes' athletic director, the team is made up of Maggie Vaughan and Lila Rifaat, winners of league honors for the fall season; Sarah Boling, Lamar Jackson, Amy Gillis, Hillary Vaughan, Jennifer Griffin, Sarah Williams, Katie Batal, Ginny Taylor, Cecile Lastelic, Sharon Dewey and Lisa Yadao. During the regular season and throughout the tournament play, the green-and-gold-clad hockey team scored 41 goals and had only 5 goals scored against them. Hospital Group Elects Chairman J. Edward Sweet Jr., president of Alexandria Hospital, was recently elected chairman of the Virginia Hospital Association, which represents 120 hospitals in Virginia.
