A Northwest man was fatally shot in his apartment early yesterday and a Prince George's County man apparently was bludgenoned to death in a Southeast alley last night in unrelated incidents, D.C. police said.
Police said the shooting victim, Abimbola A. Akinola, 25, was found by his roommate lying in the living room of their apartment at 5611 7th St. NW at about 3 a.m., with a gunshot wound in the head. Akinola was pronounced dead at D.C. General Hospital about three hours later, police said. They do not have a motive or suspects in the case.
Police made an arrest in connection with the death of 35-year-old Joseph C. Pinkney of Rt. 1, Box 233, Mechanicsville, Md., who they said was found lying unconscious in an alley at the rear of the 1500 block of Congress Place SE about 7:30 p.m.
Police said Pinkney apparently fought with Gilbert J. Comber of 3263 Stanton Rd. SE not long before he was found by police.
Comber was arrested at 10 p.m., police said, and was charged with second-degree murder. He is to appear in D.C. Superior Court today, police said.
