Boy Scout Fair

A Boy Scout Fair will be held on Feb. 8 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Potomac Mills Mall, marking the 25th anniversary of the Prince William County Scouting District.

The opening ceremony will be conducted by John D. Jenkins, Neabsco District Supervisor. Highlights of the fair will include an Indian dance, a pinewood derby race, Cub Scout crafts and demonstrations of back-packing equipment and methods.

The Mount Vernon Recreation Center will have a special George Washington's Birthday Skate on Monday, Feb. 17 from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. The admission fee is $3.50 per adult and $2.50 per child. Skate rental is an additional $1.25. "Jeff the D.J." will play favorite tunes for holiday skaters. The center, a Fairfax County Park Authority, is at 2017 Belle View Blvd. Take Beltway exit 1-S (Richmond Highway, Rte. 1) south bearing right onto Fort Hunt Road (Rte. 629) and following 1.5 miles to a right at Belle View Boulevard. Submissions are being accepted from young composers through high school age for a Fairfax County Public Library recital during the 1986-87 season. Composers should submit three copies of each composition to Prof. Judith Harrison, George Mason University, Dept. of Performing Arts, 4400 University Dr., Fairfax, VA 22030 by March 1.

A panel of judges from George Mason University and the Music Friends of the Fairfax Library will select the compositions to be heard during May auditions for next year's recitals. Day volunteers are needed for HAVEN, a non-sectarian, all-volunteer organization that provides practical and emotional support to persons facing life-threatening illness, their families, and the bereaved. Volunteers are needed one day a week, Monday through Friday, from either 9:30 a.m. to noon or from noon to 2:30 p.m. Training will be held in April.
