A prisoner who escaped from a District courthouse Monday and was captured in an Alexandria motel Wednesday escaped again yesterday while in the custody of the Alexandria sheriff's office.
The second time around, James Miller, 30, apparently crawled through a hole he punched in a bullet-proof glass dividing screen of a courthouse conference room, according to a spokeswoman for the sheriff's office, which is located in the courthouse.
Late yesterday Alexandria Sheriff James H. Dunning and his deputies were not sure which way Miller had gone, according to an impromptu hallway meeting between the sheriff and his staff that was observed by a reporter.
"We went and looked at McDonald's first, that's where these guys always go," one deputy told Dunning.
"Did you check the ventilation shafts? Did you check the garage?" asked a Dunning staff member.
Miller, of the 900 block of Third St. SE, who is also known as Tyrone McIlwain, escaped from the D.C. Superior Court cell block Monday by forcing a wire mesh screen and walking past security guards. He is wanted by Maryland authorities for a parole violation and was awaiting a hearing.
"He must be doing this for fun," one courthouse employe said.
