Robert Angell Husted, 54, a mechanical engineer with the development engineering and acquisition branch of the Army Materiel Command, died of leukemia May 21 at his home in Chevy Chase.
Mr. Husted was born in New York City. A graduate of Rutgers University, he earned a master's degree in electrical engineering from the University of California at Los Angeles. He served in the Army from 1955 to 1957.
He worked for the Hughes Aircraft Corp. in California before moving to Washington in 1971 and joining the Transportation Department. In 1980, he transferred to the Department of the Army.
Mr. Husted received the Transportation Department's Superior Achievement Award in 1979.
He was a member of the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Washington and was active with the Catholic Youth Organization and the Boy Scouts.
His marriage to the former June Fapinano ended in divorce.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia, and their two children, Bridget and Stephen Husted, all of Chevy Chase; two children by his first marriage, Todd and Glenn Husted, both of California; his stepfather, John T. Ryle of Spring Lake Heights, N.J.; one sister, Sarah Cottier of Mission Viejo, Calif., and one stepsister, Carol I. Orio of Spring Lake Heights.
