ELEANOR DEAN LEAVITT HUNT, 61, a member of All Saints Episcopal Church at Chevy Chase Circle who was active in civic groups in Montgomery County, died of cancer July 13 at her home in Chevy Chase.

She had served on the board of directors of the Montgomery County Environmental Coalition and on the advisory board of the National Capital Planning Commission for the development of Friendship Heights. She also was a member of a Montgomery County Planning Board's growth advisory committee.

Mrs. Hunt had done volunteer work for the Field Service of Montgomery County and was a member of the Chevy Chase Village Citizens Association and the Montgomery County Civic Association.

She had done advisory work with the Army Corps of Engineers and had been a leader in opposing a new sewage treatment facility in upper Montgomery County.

Mrs. Hunt was born in Washington. She was a 1939 graduate of Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School and a graduate of the old Penn Hall College in Pennsylvania. A member of a Navy family, she had moved about the United States before settling in the Washington area again in the 1950s.

Her marriage to Navy Capt. Guy Leavitt ended in divorce.

Survivors include her husband, retired Navy Capt. David Hunt of Chevy Chase; two children by her first marriage, Guy Jr., of Gaithersburg, and Elaine Rutherford Clark of Bradenton, Fla.; four stepchildren; her mother, Edythe Dean of Washington; one brother, Richard Dean of Wheaton, and two grandchildren.
