MARIANNE F. MALLGRAVE, 11, a Silver Spring resident who had just finished the sixth grade at Kemp Mill Elementary School there, died July 19 at Montgomery General Hospital as a result of injuries she received in an automobile accident earlier that day.
A spokesman for the Montgomery County police said the accident occurred near the intersection of Layhill and Briggs roads in Wheaton. Police said Miss Mallgrave was riding in a car driven northbound on Layhill by her brother Matthew when the car went out of control on a wet curve, crossed the center line and collided with an oncoming vehicle. Matthew Mallgrave and the three occupants of the second vehicle were treated and released, police said. Miss Mallgrave, who was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, was pronounced dead at Montgomery General, the spokesman said.
Miss Mallgrave was born in Silver Spring. She was a member of the chorus at Kemp Mill and was active in CYO track and softball groups at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Silver Spring. She also was a member of the Kenmont Swim Club and was a gymnast.
In addition to her brother, of Silver Spring, Miss Mallgrave's survivors include her parents, Francis X. and Frances E. Mallgrave, also of Silver Spring, and three grandparents, Edward and Frances Kennealy of Philadelphia and Edith B. Mallgrave of Audubon, N.J.
