Parents of graduating seniors at Reston's South Lakes High School, in an effort to provide a safe, alcohol-free alternative to the traditional graduation-night bash, are hosting the All Night Party.
More than 300 of South Lakes' 570 graduating seniors are expected to attend tonight's event at the Reston Community Center, located at 2310 Colts Neck Rd.
"It is a gift from the senior parents to the class of 1987," said Caren Schumacher, a South Lakes parent who is heading the event.
"It is our positive alternative to going out to parties and drinking," said Schumacher, whose daughter Wendy will attend the event.
The theme of the party, which will begin at 11 p.m. and go until 6 a.m. tomorrow, is "Airport '87."
The party will feature an airport-like check-in stand as the seniors enter.
A wide variety of activities are scheduled, including swimming, casino games, movies, a band and a disc jockey.
Throughout the night, prizes will be given out, including a grand prize of $1,000 in cash, and four second prizes of $500 each.
Other prizes to be given out include cameras, T-shirts, albums, a TV, a car stereo and dozens more.
"It is far beyond what we anticipated," Schumacher said about the response of the Reston business community to the event.
More than 150 businesses have donated prizes and materials.
