TOWN OF LANDOVER HILLS

As a part of the Prince George's County Para-Transit Program, the Town of Landover Hills soon will start a bus service for senior citizens and handicapped residents.

The county has provided a 14-passenger van, to be shared with the neighboring town of Cheverly, that will operate within a five-mile radius of both town limits. The service is free and available to residents who are over the age of 55 or handicapped. Seats must be reserved 24 hours in advance.

"We'll start the program initially -- to see what response we get -- Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.," said Town Administrator Daniel R. O'Donnell. "If we get a good response, we'll expand it."

The town is now looking for someone with a class C drivers license, a good driving record and experience to drive the van.

"As soon as we have a driver, we're ready to go," O'Donnell said. The town wants to begin the service in mid-July.
