UPPER CARDOZO-COLUMBIA HGTS.

The D.C. Department of Human Services has sent Advisory Neighborhood Commission 1A written responses to questions the ANC posed about proposed school-based health centers.

The controversial centers, which would provide birth-control pills to students, were the subject of several ANC discussions.

In April, the ANC 1A commissioners sent a letter to R. David Hall, president of the D.C. Board of Education, strongly urging the board to reject a proposal to open one or two health clinics in the public high school system.

The letter also opposed a proposal to allow several types of birth control to be prescribed to students by clinic staff members. The proposals were made by school board member Eugene Kinlow and supported by the city's health department.

Last spring, the commissioners also sent a letter to the Department of Human Services, asking several questions about the clinics.

Those responses are available to the public in the ANC office, 3511 14th St. NW.
