A 36-year-old Northwest woman fatally shot herself after critically injuring her husband last night when the woman drew a gun during a domestic dispute at the couple's house, police said.

Police responding to a report of a shooting at 5244 Watson St. found David Scott, 40, lying in the front yard of the house and his wife, Lynn Scott, 36, sprawled on the front porch of the house about 9:30 p.m., they said.

David Scott, who was shot several times in his torso, was taken to nearby Sibley Memorial Hospital by a neighbor, they said. He was admitted there in critical condition and was in surgery early this morning, hospital officials said.

Lynn Scott, who was found with a single gunshot wound to the chest, was pronounced dead at Georgetown University Hospital at 10:35 p.m., police said.

Police spokesman Walter Ferguson said Lynn Scott produced a handgun, which was later recovered by police, during the argument and shot her husband, who was able to stagger out of the house before collapsing.

Lynn Scott then "apparently turned the gun on herself" inside the house before making her way to the porch where she collapsed, Ferguson said.
