2 Chosen for Summer Jobs

The Maryland Natural Gas Co. has selected two area students to participate in its "Hire N Help" program. They are Avis Ryan from Prince George's County and Tamara Catlett from Montgomery County. The program is designed to provide area high school youth with summer employment by lending them to area agencies.

Ryan, 16, is a senior at Fairmont Heights High School. She is working with the United Communities Against Poverty, a program assisting low-income Prince George's residents.

Catlett, 15, is a sophomore at Montgomery Blair High School. Her summer employment is with the Montgomery County Red Cross.

Both were selected on the basis of their outstanding academic records.

Annapolis Tutor Honored

Curtis A. Wilson, a tutor at St. John's College in Annapolis, has been named the 1987 Maryland State Professor of the Year by the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education in Washington. He was selected from among 15 nominations from Maryland colleges. More than 400 members were proposed nationally in the annual competition. The final choices were made by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching at Princeton.

Twenty states had state winners.

Wilson has been with St. John's since 1948 except for seven years at the University of California.

He served two four-year terms as St. John's dean from 1958 to 1962 and again from 1973 to 1977.
