BETHESDA

BURDETTE RD., 9121 -- Granted a variance request by Michael D. Rubin to build a swimming pool in the front yard instead of the rear yard as required.

SHADY OAK LA., 6105 -- Granted a variance request by Claire and Brahim Khalifa to build a swimming pool with an enclosure 17.1 feet from the rear property line instead of the minimum 25 feet required. A variance also was granted to allow the pool to cover 31.5 percent of the lot instead of the maximum 30 percent allowed.

BROOKMONT

BROAD ST., 6402 -- Granted a variance request by Carol and Bill McGrath to enclose an existing porch that does not conform to current zoning standards because of its location on the lot.

CHEVY CHASE

DE RUSSEY PKWY., 4620 -- Granted a variance request by E. Karl Bastress to build an addition to a house four feet from a side property line instead of the minimum three feet required.

OAKLAND RD., 5204 -- Granted a variance request by Patricia and Joseph Potts to build a retaining wall one foot from the rear property line instead of the minimum two feet required and six inches from a side property line instead of the minimum two feet required.

WISSIOMING RD., 5123 -- Granted a variance request by Richard and L.J. Heinecke Jr. to build an addition to a house 10 1/4 feet from the front property line instead of the minimum 25 feet required.

OLNEY

JOHN CARROLL DR., 3713 -- Granted a variance request by Audra and Harry Shafer to build a carport three feet from a side property line instead of the minimum 12 feet required.

QUEEN MARY DR., 3801 -- Granted a variance request by Michael T. McDermitt to place pillars around and roof on an existing porch that extends 5 feet 2 inches into the front yard instead of the maximum three feet allowed.

ROCKVILLE

PINTO LA., 14631 -- Granted a variance request by Richard Meagher to build a ground-level deck one foot from the rear property line instead of the minimum 12 feet required.

SANDY SPRINGS

NEW HAMPSHIRE AVENUE AND EDNOR ROAD AREA -- Denied a special exception request by the Crestleigh Village Foundation to build and operate a housing facility for the elderly on a 159-acre lot northwest of the intersection of New Hampshire Avenue and Ednor Road and southeast of the intersection of Olney-Sandy Spring Road in a residential zone.

SILVER SPRING

HAYES AVE., 10510 -- Granted a special exception request by Betty and Raymond W. Stickles to build a porch 16 feet from the front property line instead of the minimum 25 feet required.

TAKOMA PARK

COLUMBIA AVE., 42 -- Granted a variance request by Betty and Martin L. Padarathsingh to build a two-story addition to a house that does not conform to current zoning standards because of its location on the lot. Any addition to such a structure requires a variance.
