Youth Orchestra Accepting Applications The D.C. Youth Orchestra invites city schoolchildren to register for the 1987-88 season at Coolidge Senior High School, Fifth and Tuckerman streets NW.
Beginning musicians can sign up at 9 a.m. Sept. 12. Returning students can register from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 19.

Downtown Arts Festival Scheduled
Activities for Downtown Development in the Arts will hold its fourth annual festival over Labor Day Weekend.
On Saturday, local acts will perform jazz, folk, oldies and reggae starting at 6 p.m. at Western Plaza, 14th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW. On Sunday, dancers and musicians will be at the Vendors Mall, Ninth and F streets NW, from noon to 8 p.m.
The Martin Luther King Jr. Library, Ninth and G streets NW, will show films from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday. The children's chalk drawing contest on the Eighth Street Artists' Alley will begin at 1 p.m. Artists will work on the Invitational Grafitti Wall on Ninth and F streets. Live performances at d.c. space will include readings by local poets from 1 to 6 p.m., and excerpts from "A Man Without a Contra" and "Dance Against Darkness," beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Youth Talent Show Auditions Set
Unfoldment Inc. will hold auditions Saturday and Sept. 12 for the talent show of its fourth annual "Say No to Drugs Youth Festival" from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Barry Farms Recreational Center, 1230 Sumner Rd. SE. The festival will be from noon to 7 p.m. Sept. 19 at Barry Farms. A $500 first prize will be awarded to the best act demonstrating the dangers of drug abuse. Second prize is $250; third prize is $100. --
