The Manna Food Center will distribute free surplus food at 35 locations in Montgomery County in a program beginning today.

As part of the center's Temporary Emergency Food Assistance Program, more than 200 volunteers will staff the distribution sites where surplus butter, cheese, dry milk, flour, rice and perhaps cornmeal will be given away. The center distributes the food under a contract with the Montgomery County Department of Family Resources. All sites will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. unless otherwise noted.

The distribution schedule:

Sept. 17 -- Seventh-Day Adventist Community Service Center in Takoma Park.

Sept. 18 -- Holiday Park Senior Center in Wheaton and Rockville Senior Center.

Sept. 19 -- Poolesville Health Clinic, Lincoln Park Community Center and Community Health Clinic, both in Rockville; Takoma Park Junior High School; Upper County Community Center, St. Martin's Catholic Church and Stewartown United Methodist Church, all in Gaithersburg; Plum Gar Community Center in Germantown; Rosemary Hills Community Center, St. Camillus Catholic Church, and Silver Spring Center, all in Silver Spring; Ross Boddy Community Center in Sandy Spring; Wheaton Center; Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Bethesda; and the Ken Gar Community Center in Kensington.

Sept. 21 -- Clarksburg Recreation Center; Damascus United Methodist, which will be distributing food from noon to 3 p.m.

Free food will be distributed at the following public-supported housing sites, for residents only beginning Sept. 19:

Bethany House, Rock Creek Terrace, Forest Oak Towers, Londonderry Towers, Rebecca House, Margruder's Discovery, Inwood House, Franklin Apartments, Lakeview House, Suburban Park Village, Parkway Woods and Tobytown.

Deliveries to the handicapped will be made from Sept. 21 to Oct. 2. Eligible handicapped persons who have not had a previous delivery should call 424-1242. Those who have had a previous delivery need not call.
