McLean Man to Advise Volunteerism Agency

Gov. Gerald L. Baliles has appointed McLean resident Eugene Margolis to the 15-member Advisory Board for the Virginia Department of Volunteerism. Margolis will serve a four-year term on the panel, which advises the department director on methods and procedures to encourage and enhance volunteer activities in Virginia.

Margolis has been president of the Virginia State Association of B'nai B'rith, and pioneered Project HOPE in Northern Virginia, an effort providing food to needy and elderly Jewish families.

State Bar Executive Director Named

William K. Slate II will become the executive director and chief operating officer of the Virginia State Bar in early October. Slate, who now holds a similar position as circuit executive for the U.S. Court of Appeals in Philadelphia, has practiced law in Richmond and was a longtime resident..

Reston Scholar Attending Yale

Thomas Carleton Moore of Reston is attending Yale University after a distinguished academic and athletic career at Langston Hughes Intermediate School and Sunrise Valley Elementary School in Reston, and Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire. Moore was an honors graduate and a soccer and track letterman at Phillips Exeter. He earned advanced placement status in mathematics/calculus.
