As long as he can remember, Seneca Valley placekicker John Duke has fantasized about making the key field goal in the final seconds to give his team a big win.

Recently, Duke has gone one better than his dreams.

For the second time in three weeks, Duke kicked a field goal to give his team an important Montgomery AA victory. In a battle of unbeatens Saturday, Duke made a 25-yard field goal with six seconds left to give the Screaming Eagles a 17-14 win over Springbrook.

Duke made a 27-yard field goal to beat league rival Churchill, 3-0, Sept. 25.

"In my dreams, the kicks are usually from farther away," said the 5-foot-5, 150-pound Duke. "But making those kicks has been great. I missed a kick that would have beaten Springbrook last year and it bothered me a long time. It was nice to make one to beat them."

Duke missed two kicks at the beginning of the year before making four straight.

"In practice I can hit about seven of 10 from about 50 yards, but so far we haven't needed me to try one that far," said Duke, whose team is 6-0. "I feel I could make it if I had to." -- Donald Huff
