Winners in "The Spirit of Excellence" art and photography contest for public housing residents were announced recently by the Department of Housing and Community Development.
In the 3 to 6 age group, Phillip Johnson, Donelle Robinson and Shantary Fields won for art; Michael Miller and Raymond Dobbs for photography.
In the 7 to 12 age group, winners in art are Cynthia Scott, Daniel Chambers and Brian Knight; in photography, Patrick Ross, Donald Jackson and Deon Moore.
In the 13 to 15 age group, winners in art are Tosha Link, Jaleel Davis, Olivia Calloway and Craig Lee; in photography, Lonnie Brown and Robert Smith.
In the 16 to 18 age group, winners are Sheldon Malloy, Larry Quick and Gregory Young. No photography prizes were awarded in this group.
In the seniors category, Mildred Mack won in art; Sylvia Williams, Charles Brock and Elmer Holmes Jr. won in photography.
The contest, which attracted 102 entries, was judged by W.C. Bradley of the mayor's office, Nester Hernandez of the Capital Children's Museum, and Ron Elbert of the housing office. American Security Bank, Safeway Stores, Giant Food, the Market Inn, Renaissance Unlimited, WKYS and WOL radio stations, Coca-Cola, the Hyatt Regency Hotel and the Oliver Carr Cos. donated prizes.
