The following were among actions taken at the Oct. 15 meeting of the Falls Church Board of Zoning Appeals. For more information, call 241-5015.

BROAD ST. W., 1083 -- Deferred until Dec. 17 the request of Allan R. Hurwitz to allow an eight-foot-high fence to remain standing around dumpsters in a parking lot. The maximum height allowed for such structures is 3 1/2 feet.

ELLISON ST., 1209 -- Approved for a two-year trial period the request of Lynne W. Cruse to teach piano lessons in her house from 3 to 9 p.m weekdays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays.

JEFFERSON ST. E., 400 -- Approved the request of the Salsbury family to build a porch closer to a side property than the 15-foot minimum distance required. The applicants asked to build the porch four feet from the line; the board determined the stucture could stand eight feet from the line.

ROOSEVELT BLVD., 400 -- Approved the request of Tom London to erect a 24-foot-high sign on the outside of a business. The maximum height normally permitted is 15 feet high.

SPRING ST. S., 523 -- Approved the request of Philip Hannum to allow a front foyer to remain standing 19 feet from the front property line instead of the 30-foot minimum distance required.

UNDERWOOD ST. N., 201 -- Approved the request of the Evans family to build a house 15 feet from the front property line instead of the minimum 30 feet required.
