Coached the South Lakes field hockey team, the Northern Region runnerup, to a fourth Great Falls District title with a 8-2 district, 11-4 overall record this season.

The 58-year-old McLean resident has been the only varsity field hockey coach at South Lakes since the Reston school opened in 1978. She has led the Seahawks to a Virginia AAA State title in 1983, and the Northern Region finals this year and in 1985.

Is retiring from her coaching career after 36 years, eight of which she worked at building the program at Langley High School and 18 years prior to that at Hopewell High School near Richmond.

Played halfback for the James Madison University team in 1951 and was selected to the college state team. She continued playing for a club team after graduating that year.

Webb said: "I guess it really hit me Friday to know that was it {my final game}. It's very emotional. Coaching has been extremely satisfying to me. In teaching you meet students but in coaching you get closer to the students themselves. In coaching they {the girls} want to be there. You become a family. They say 'kids keep you young' and they do...they give you a lot of love back."
