Toys for Tots Benefit

The Spirit of Washington, a luxury dinner cruise ship, will hold an open house from 4 to 5 p.m. Dec. 5 at Pier 4, Sixth and Water streets SW.

The event, which will include a drawing for tickets to "Sesame Street Live" at the Patriot Center in Fairfax County, is to benefit the Marine Corps Reserve's annual Toys for Tots Christmas campaign. Admission for the open house is a new toy.

Cancer Society Dance

The Northeast Unit of the American Cancer Society will sponsor a dance at 10 p.m. Dec. 11 at the All Saints School, 1001 Lawrence St. NE. Tickets for the benefit are $10. Western attire is encouraged. For information, call 529-1508.

Basic Books for Adults

The District of Columbia Public Library has opened Adult Basic Education Collections at five branches, with materials for adults who read at first- through eighth-grade levels. The collections are available at Anacostia, Good Hope Road and 18th Street SE; Capitol View, Central Avenue and 50th Street SE; Northeast, Seventh and D streets SE; Washington Highlands, Atlantic Street and S. Capitol Terrace SW, and Watha T. Daniel, Eighth Street and Rhode Island Avenue NW.

School Volunteers Honored

The D.C. public schools held ceremonies at the Sumner School this week to honor volunteers at the District's career centers.

The event was presided over by students attending the career centers and those in vocational education organizations.
