After-school and weekend sports and recreational activities at many Fairfax school gymnasiums are free of charge for children and teen-agers in Fairfax County through March, sponsored by the Fairfax County Department of Recreation and Community Services. For children of elementary school ages, indoor sports, games and arts and crafts are supervised for two hours after school at 40 county elementary schools until March 4. Intermediate and high school age youths may drop in to play basketball at 53 school locations each Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. until March 20. Adults are also welcome at the high school locations. Children of various ages in Alexandria are invited to attend any of several free holiday parties and activities sponsored by the Alexandria Department of Recreation during the week before Christmas.
