Every now and then, a player like Cardozo's William Davis will excel on both sides of the basketball court. Davis, a 6-foot-5, l90-pound senior, led his team to three consecutive victories last week, scoring a season-high 36 points against Ballou, 31 against H.D. Woodson and 23 against Anacostia.
Davis is known as a scorer, but Cardozo Coach Henry Lindsey said Davis is also solid on defense.
"He is an excellent shooter, and a good passer," said Lindsey. "People overlook the fact that he plays excellent defense. He is a player that plays at both ends of the court."
Davis attributes his success to his aggressiveness under the basket.
"I tell my other teammates to shoot the ball because my opponents consider me the man, and when they miss, I'm around the ball for some reason and follow through," said Davis.
Despite Cardozo's record of 8-12 overall, 4-9 in the Interhigh League, Davis is among the league's top scorers with an average of 24.6 points per game. He is difficult to defend because he can take the ball inside or accurately shoot from beyond the three-point line. However, he prefers the former.
