A Woodbridge man was killed Saturday night on Interstate 95 after he fell asleep in his car, fell out of it when it struck a guardrail and was hit by another vehicle, Virginia State Police said yesterday.
Wayne E. Brown, 27, of the 13700 block of Lynn Street, was driving south on I-95 about a half-mile from the Dumfries exit when he fell asleep at the wheel of his Subaru, according to Trooper R.J. Tershak. The car veered to the left and crashed into a guardrail, jarring the door open, Tershak said.
The car then traveled to the right across the interstate and Brown fell out of the car into the center lane. Brown was on his elbow attempting to get up when he was hit by a Ford Thunderbird driven by William Michael Arnold, 26, of the 6100 block of Kitson Lane in Springfield, Tershak said.
Brown's car continued traveling right and hit an Isuzu truck. No one was injured in that collision.
Arnold was charged with driving under the influence and involuntary manslaughter and was being held in the Prince William County adult detention center in lieu of $200,000 bond, Tershak said.
Brown was not wearing a seat belt, Tershak said.
