Clock Care Class
A workshop on basic care and maintenance of clocks, particularly grandfather clocks, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the John C. Wood Complex at 3730 Old Lee Hwy. in Fairfax County. The Women's Center in Vienna is sponsoring a seminar, "Women and Friendship," from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Vienna Community Center. Kathleen S. Ricker, a licensed clinical psychologist, author and lecturer, will discuss the role of women's friendships, the barriers that come between women, and how to cope with the loss of women friends through the competing demands of marriage, family and careers. Community Living Alternatives, a nonprofit organization that develops quality living arrangements for people with developmental disabilities, is looking for volunteers to help with office work. Scholarship Swim Meet
The Greenbriar Pool in Fairfax County is holding a special swim meet at 6:30 p.m. today to raise money for a scholarship fund in memory of a deceased Greenbriar Swim Team member. The Patsy Graham Memorial Fund was established last year in honor of former swim team participant Patsy Graham, who died of cancer in 1988. Funds will be raised at the meet through food vendors and T-shirt sales. Last year, the team raised $2,500. Other area swim teams are expected to participate in this year's meet. Community Life Line
Senior citizens and those who need special attention (because of heavy medication or disabilities, for example) are invited to register for the Falls Church Police Department's Community Life Line program. Those registered will be called by computer each day. If the person registered fails to answer after several attempts, an officer will be dispatched. Free training is available for single parents and displaced homemakers who need help entering the job market or changing jobs. Administered by Fairfax County Public Schools, Project Update has offices at Bryant Center, off Route 1 south of Alexandria, and Pimmit Hills Center, near Route 7 in Falls Church. The program provides free career counseling, job skills training, support groups and job placement assistance.
