Registered day-care providers in Montgomery County can receive reimbursement for the meals they serve to children under their care.
The current rate of reimbursement is 73 cents for breakfast, $1.31 for dinner or lunch and 39 cents for each snack.
The county's Department of Social Services administers the reimbursement program and the U.S. Department of Agriculture provides funds.
To register for the program or to get more information, call 468-4205.
Polls for Handicapped Voters Physically handicapped voters who live in precincts where structural barriers block the polling area may request an alternate location.
A written reassignment request must be made to the elections office, 751 Twinbrook Parkway in Rockville, no later than 5 p.m. Aug. 13.
The primary will be held Sept. 11.
Reassignment is permitted if a barrier-free polling place is available in a precinct that uses the same ballot as the one in which the voter resides.
If a satisfactory substitute location is not available, or the handicapped voter does not wish to be reassigned, voting by absentee ballot is an alternative.
The deadline to send applications for absentee ballots is 8 p.m. Sept. 4.
For 24-hour information on absentee voting, call 217-6480.
County Photography Contest County students may participate in a photography contest sponsored by the county Office of Minority and Multicultural Affairs, the Committee for Ethnic Affairs and the county's Department of Libraries.
The theme of the contest is "Montgomery County Mosaic: Celebrating Our Cultural Diversity," and students ages 11 to 18 are eligible to enter.
Photographs should reflect that theme, include people, and be no smaller than 5 inches square and no larger than 10 inches square.
Judging will be based on technical excellence and relevance to the theme. All entries must have the photographer's name, address and phone number.
Impoundment Law in Effect A Maryland law went into effect Sunday giving the county police authority to recover the cost of impounding an abandoned car -- up to $300.
The owner of an impounded vehicle that is later sold for less than the impoundment expenses is not eligible for a new tag until the owner reimburses the police.
